American history has a lot of major inventors in its annals. A few notable American inventors are:
Armstrong, Edwin Howard (1890-1954), American inventor and electrical engineer who made fundamental
contributions to the development of radio communication.
Bogardus, James (1800-1874), American inventor and architect, best known for popularizing the
use of cast iron in building construction.
Borden, Gail (1801-1874), American inventor and industrialist, who invented a process for condensing milk.
Browning, John Moses (1855-1926), American inventor, famous for his innovations to the design of firearms.
Bushnell, David (1742-1824), American inventor born in Saybrook, Connecticut, who in 1775 built the first military submarine.
Carlson, Chester F. (1906-1968), American physicist, patent attorney, and inventor of xerography
an electronic dry copying process for the reproduction of images or documents, commonly known now as photocopying.
Corliss, George Henry, (1817-1888) American engineer and inventor who devised a significant mechanical advance in the steam engine.
Curtiss, Glenn Hammond (1878-1930) was an American aviator and inventor. Curtiss designed and built
a number of the earliest seaplanes and flying boats.
Edison, Thomas Alva (1847-1931), American inventor, whose development of a practical electric light bulb,
electric generating system, sound-recording device, and motion picture projector had profound effects on the shaping of modern society.
Ericsson, John (1803-1889), Swedish-born American inventor and engineer helped improve the steam engine
and made important contributions to marine engineering.
Fairchild, Sherman Mills (1896-1971), American inventor and manufacturer made major advances in
aerial photography and aeronautic technology. He invented several cameras and developed the
first airplanes in the United States to have enclosed cockpits.
